Meet Our Staff

Leilani Schenkel, Executive Director RN, BSN, NREMT-P

Founder and Executive Director Leilani Schenkel, has been with Almost Home since day one. Her passion for caring for other people is evident in everything she does, and her drive to create a living option that breaks the mold in today's healthcare industry is the reason Almost Home is what it is today. Prior to founding our nonprofit organization, Leilani served in various leadership roles for local hospitals, staffing agencies, and healthcare providers for nearly twenty years.

Danielle, RN

Danielle has worked as a CNA/CMA from 2009 until obtaining her nursing degree from Barton Community College in 2017. She has worked in a variety of healthcare settings, from assisted living to hospice. She is currently employed full-time at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She has a soft spot for the elderly but loves caring for all ages. In her spare time, she enjoys camping, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

Kammi, CNA, CMA

Kammi received her CNA certificate at age 16 and has spent the last ten years working with and enjoying the elderly. Her hobbies include spending time with her husband and their two sons, Cooper and Kipton. She also enjoys reading and traveling. She says her favorite thing about working at Almost Home is building relationships with the residents. "It's satisfying knowing that I am able to give the residents the quality of care they deserve and knowing they are happy where they are at, at the end of the day."

Karly, CNA

Karly received her CNA certificate right out of high school and went to Barton for her Medical Assisting Certificate, which she earned in 2015. In April of 2017, she decided to try a new route away from her job at the Page, which she worked at for four years, and was given the opportunity to use her CNA certificate for the first time at Almost Home. Some of her hobbies include spending time with her family, especially her niece Cambria. What she enjoys most about Almost Home is the loving, home-like environment and being able to get to know all the residents and their families. She is blessed to be a part of the atmosphere Almost Home provides for this community.

Brenda, CNA, CMA

"I look forward to Tuesday so I can work at Almost Home. It's nice to be in the small home sitting to be able to have one on one and more time with each resident."

Brenda has worked as a CNA for the past 15 years and a CMA for 12 years. After graduating, she worked at a nursing home for several years and then transitioned to assisted living, where she currently works. When she is not working at Riverbend Assisted Living, she works at Almost Home, part-time. Brenda enjoys spending time with her family, as well as her 5 dogs. She has a 32-year-old son and a daughter that is 20 and is in the nursing program.

Ebony, CNA, CMA

Ebony has been a CNA since 2010. "I've worked in many different nursing settings and genuinely love what I do." Ebony also recently received my CMA certificate. She loves spending time with her family and watching her kids grow.

Melissa, CNA

Melissa joined the Almost Home family in July 2020. "I enjoy working with the residents one-on-one. Especially as we help them get ready each day, I am able to start their day with Joy! Sometimes just asking them questions, dancing or just taking the time to connect with them." In her spare time, Melissa enjoys spending time with her dog, Breezy.

Regan, CNA

Regan just started at Almost Home in May 2021. "I've worked in other nursing settings and really enjoy the feel of HOME. Our residents have choices and can decide what they do each day and when. As simple as when they eat breakfast and what they feel like eating." In her free time Regan enjoys going to the lake and dancing (she was on the Barton Dance Team in College).
